A 65-year-old man resident in Ascea died after he became ill suddenly while swimming in a pool in Acquavella.
Acquavella is a locality in the municipality of Casal Velino, in the Cilento area of the province of Salerno.
Despite resuscitation attempts that lasted more than an hour, the man did not survive.
Emergency assistance was provided by the Misericordia di Vallo della Lucania, operating with the Omignano post. An ambulance and personnel from the Acquavella Carabinieri station also attended the scene.
The victim's name has not been reported, and the precise medical cause of death has not been established. No details have been released about the outcome of the Carabinieri's inquiries at the scene.
