A student had her smartphone forcibly taken near Piazza Garibaldi in Naples, and a suspect was arrested shortly afterward after allegedly resisting the officers who stopped him.

The incident took place near the intersection with Via Alessandro Poerio, according to reports from Il Mattino and Fanpage. Fanpage places the incident on the evening of 19 October.

What the reports say happened

According to the two reports, the woman was assaulted and her smartphone was taken. The suspect then attempted to flee.

Officers from the San Lorenzo operational unit stopped the fleeing man, with assistance from another patrol. During the intervention, the suspect resisted, kicking and pushing or swinging his arms at the officers, the reports say.

A subsequent search recovered the stolen phone, which was returned to the woman.

Suspect had prior robbery arrest, reports say

The reports say the suspect had prior convictions or police records for property offences and had been arrested on 13 September for robbery.

The suspect's name and age were not provided in the reports.

Arrest on robbery and resistance allegations

The suspect was arrested on allegations including robbery and resistance to a public official, the reports say.

He was transferred to Naples-Poggioreale prison pending further judicial decisions. The reports describe an arrest and the prosecution's allegations; they do not establish a final conviction, and the exact legal classification and outcome remained pending judicial review at the time of reporting.
