Flor do Café, a Naples-based supermarket chain, has warned that its shelves are emptying because its supply platform is no longer delivering normally.

Fresh products have been the first to suffer. Eggs were already sold out, while customers rushed to buy flour and preserves. According to the company, fruit and vegetables could be unavailable from Wednesday 21 October, with other products lasting only another couple of days.

Managing director Francesco Siciliano said the chain could be forced to close if supplies do not resume.

The disruption is linked to a protest by hauliers over fuel costs. On 20 October, trucks in Via Marina in Naples slowed traffic during the protest, without creating a complete road blockade. The same protest was associated with worsening fuel and food-supply concerns on Ischia and Procida.

It remains unclear whether supplies have since resumed or whether Flor do Café has closed, and the available reporting does not quantify how many stores are affected or how long the transport disruption will last.
