Campania's road hauliers say their protest will continue at least until 27 October, when a new meeting with the national government is expected.

The announcement followed a meeting in Milan between a Campania delegation and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini and Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi. Vincenzo Parisi, the Campania delegate and a representative of hauliers from the Carinaro industrial area, said the blockades could remain in place until that date.

The protest is linked to high diesel costs and the financial pressure facing road transport operators.

Where disruption was reported

The mobilisation affected several major road points in Campania, including the Nola toll gate, the Nola–Villa Literno junction, the Asse Mediano, the Avellino Est toll gate, the Mercato San Severino barrier and the Port of Naples.

On 20 October, traffic reports pointed to queues on the A1 at the Napoli Nord barrier and between Napoli Nord and Caserta Nord, as well as the closure of the Nocera–Pagani exit on the A30.

Drivers using those routes should expect possible delays and check current traffic conditions before travelling, as the extent and intensity of disruption may have changed after the 20 October updates.

Government measures announced

During the talks, the government announced the release of 480 million euros for allowances linked to high diesel prices, plus a further 60 million euros for September and October.

According to Deputy Minister Rixi, those measures were not yet fully operational at the time of the meeting. The figures have been reported by national newspapers following the talks; this article does not confirm a separate official order authorising payment.

What to watch next

For readers, the central date is 27 October, indicated by the Campania representatives as the next confrontation with the government.

It is not yet verified whether the Campania blockades actually continued uninterrupted until that date, were scaled back earlier, or what the outcome of the 27 October meeting was. The situation remains dependent on whether the announced funds become available and whether hauliers consider them sufficient.
