Carabinieri from the Investigative Unit of the Benevento Provincial Command carried out an extensive series of searches at dawn in Benevento and its province against 17 people under investigation.
The operation was ordered by the Benevento Public Prosecutor's Office as part of an inquiry into alleged corruption, undue inducement, receiving stolen goods and illegal party financing.
The investigation is connected to the arrest of former municipal executive Gennaro Santamaria, who was allegedly found in possession of a substantial amount of cash divided into envelopes.
According to the available reporting, investigators are examining administrative procedures concerning urban planning, the design and awarding of public works, public recruitment competitions, co-design services and hydrogeological remediation projects.
The Prosecutor's Office has also initiated the procedure for requesting an evidentiary hearing concerning the declarant in the case, while parallel investigative measures were reportedly delegated by the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
