A political dispute has opened in Pompei over the organisation of a climate stay for residents over 65, after the opposition group Pompei Popolare alleged accounting irregularities and a possible loss to public funds.
According to Metropolis Web, the challenge concerns a managerial determination dated 7 October 2026 relating to the climate stay. The allegations remain subject to review by the competent control bodies, and the people involved retain the presumption of innocence.
Pompei Popolare says the municipality committed €45,371, calculated at €769 per person for 59 declared participants.
In the group's analysis, 16 protocol numbers were duplicated, leaving 45 unique codes. The group argues that this produced 14 allegedly unjustified or "ghost" places, with an estimated direct financial impact of €10,766.
The group has sent a formal report to the mayor, the general secretary and the municipal audit board, asking for checks and for self-annulment of the determination.
It also asked for payment mandates linked to the relevant procurement code to be suspended. According to the report, the group said it would refer the matter to the Court of Auditors if corrective action did not follow within seven days.
What is not yet established is whether the alleged duplicated protocol numbers reflect administrative errors, duplicate entries with a legitimate explanation, or actually ineligible places. The official text of the determination, the participant list and the procurement records were not independently verified.
No independent confirmation was reported of a €10,766 loss, suspended payments, an inspection, or a referral to the Court of Auditors. The municipality's response and the position of the officials named in the report were not available.
