A yellow weather alert for hydrogeological risk linked to thunderstorms is in force in Campania from 4:00 PM on Tuesday, 6 October until 2:00 PM on Wednesday, 7 October 2026.

The alert was issued by the regional Civil Protection authority. Storms may develop rapidly and locally with strong intensity, accompanied by hail, lightning and gusts of wind.

Which areas are affected

The phenomena are expected especially over the coastal sector and the islands, with the areas concerned including Naples, the islands, the Vesuvius area, the Campana Plain, the coastal sector and other parts of Campania. Zones 4 and 7 are excluded.

Because these are convective storms, conditions can change quickly over short distances. The alert describes possible scenarios; it does not establish in advance which towns will actually experience downpours, hail, flooding or landslides.

What may happen

Possible effects include damage to roofs and temporary structures, falling branches or trees, flooding of basements and ground floors, water flowing over roads, and backup of drainage systems.

Rising levels of minor watercourses, rockfalls and landslides are also possible, including in connection with soil fragility and the effects of wildfires.

Naples: parks closed and public beaches off limits

The City of Naples has announced the closure of city parks and a ban on access to public beaches for the duration of the alert.

Official notices and bulletins can be consulted in the archive of the Campania regional Civil Protection service, which operates a regional operations room active 24 hours a day. The extracted archive page confirms the availability of official bulletins, but does not reproduce the full text of the specific 6-7 October 2026 document.

What residents are advised to do

Guidance issued for the population includes:

  • Limit travel to what is strictly necessary
  • Pay attention to trees and unstable structures
  • Avoid basements or ground-floor rooms in at-risk areas
  • Do not cross underpasses that cannot be passed safely

Storm duration and intensity may vary rapidly at local level, so residents should follow updated official bulletins during the alert period.
