An 85-year-old woman from Lauro was deceived by suspects posing as Carabinieri and persuaded to hand over gold jewellery, according to a report by IrpiniaNews.
The case was investigated by the Lauro Public Security Commissariat. Police officers reportedly identified the alleged perpetrators within a few hours of the incident.
A 61-year-old man from Naples was arrested, while a 19-year-old alleged accomplice was reported while at liberty.
Police reportedly seized 1,000 euros and precious stones from the younger suspect, and 710 euros from the older suspect, allegedly linked to the proceeds of the fraud.
According to the report, the arrest was later validated and the 61-year-old was placed under house arrest in Scampia.
The allegations remain subject to judicial determination, and guilt must be established by a final judgment.
