A large branch fell from a tree in Piazza Vanvitelli in Caserta and landed on a parked car, damaging the vehicle. No injuries were reported. Traffic in the area slowed while emergency crews worked.
What happened
According to Il Mattino, the branch detached in the morning and struck a car parked in the square. A contemporaneous report from CasertaCe describes the same episode as a tree brought down by strong wind, adding that the damaged vehicle was an Audi whose windshield shattered.
The available reports differ on one point: Il Mattino refers to a large fallen branch, while CasertaCe describes an entire tree being uprooted. The exact cause of the fall — whether structural weakness, weather conditions, or a combination of factors — has not been established in the sources reviewed.
Emergency response
Firefighters attended the scene with two vehicles to secure the area. The parked car was damaged, and no injuries were reported. Traffic experienced slowdowns during the intervention.
No independently verified estimate of the cost of the damage to the vehicle was found.
Location
Piazza Vanvitelli is a central urban space in Caserta, listed by the Comune di Caserta at Piazza Vanvitelli, 81100 Caserta.
A previous incident in the same area
This was not the first such episode reported in the neighbourhood. In November 2022, CasertaNews described a fallen tree in Rione Vanvitelli that damaged a parked car. On that occasion, firefighters and municipal police attended, and no injuries were reported.
It remains unclear from the available sources whether the tree involved in the recent incident had previously undergone agronomic inspection, pruning, maintenance, or reported safety work.
