Italy's Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy has approved the national phase of the procedure to register "Ceramica Vietri" as a protected geographical indication.

The application was submitted by Vietri ceramics producers on 26 January. The documentation is now expected to proceed to the European-level phase through the European Union Intellectual Property Office. The final European registration remains pending.

According to the report, the initiative aims to protect the name, support production quality, combat imitations, and make the origin of Vietri-made goods more recognizable to buyers.

The measure was transmitted to the Campania Region and published with production specifications on the ministry's website. The full legal scope, geographic boundaries, and technical requirements will depend on that official documentation.

The recognition concerns the ceramics tradition of Vietri sul Mare, known for inherited artisan skills, workshops, creativity, and recognizable hand-painted maiolica.
