A medical specialist serving at the "A. Guerriero" hospital in Marcianise has been suspended from public office for one year over allegations of false timekeeping and aggravated fraud against the public administration.

The measure concerns Pasquale Verolino, an outpatient specialist in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Marcianise hospital. The order was issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere.

According to the accusation, Verolino allegedly used the hospital attendance system to certify his presence on duty while he was elsewhere. Investigators contest 27 episodes between 6 November 2024 and 5 April 2025.

The inquiry describes recorded shifts of 17, 18, 24 and 25 hours, despite a contract providing for six hours per week. The allegedly false certifications are said to have allowed the fictitious recovery of 531 hours, with estimated damage to the administration of more than 18,000 euros.

The investigation, delegated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere to the NAS Carabinieri, reportedly relied on badge records, video surveillance, vehicle tracking data, Telepass records, telephone logs and medical documentation.

The suspension bars the doctor from exercising public office or service in public facilities and facilities contracted with the National Health Service for one year.

These are charges supported by what investigators describe as serious indications of guilt, not a final conviction. Further judicial assessment may follow, and no subsequent developments were available in the source at the time of writing.
