Human remains were discovered during excavation work in Piazza Gagliardi, in the center of Montesano sulla Marcellana, near the town hall. Work at the site was suspended immediately after the discovery.

An archaeologist from the Soprintendenza visited the site to carry out initial assessments. According to early findings reported by Mayor Giuseppe Rinaldi, the remains may belong to two people.

The burial was found at a shallow depth. Its date and context have not yet been established and remain subject to expert examination.

Authorities have not yet clarified whether the remains are ancient or relatively recent, and the identities of the deceased have not been confirmed. No final conclusions from the Soprintendenza have been reported, and there is no confirmed date for work to resume.
