From January to September 2026, the AORN Sant'Anna e San Sebastiano in Caserta carried out eight multiorgan procurements for transplantation after brain-death assessment.

During the same period, 14 corneas were procured and 35 corneal transplants were performed.

Figures presented at the hospital event

The figures were presented during the scientific-training event "La Donazione di Organi e Tessuti: Implementazione della Cultura in materia di Donazione e Trapianti", held at the hospital on 5 October 2026.

The event involved the AORN's hospital and territorial transplant coordination structures together with the Campania Regional Transplant Centre.

Programme topics

The programme addressed the donor pathway, clinical and medico-legal procedures, neurological death diagnosis, donation after circulatory death and corneal donation and transplantation.

Awareness initiatives

The hospital also organised awareness initiatives in schools and public squares to promote informed declarations of willingness to donate organs, tissues and cells.

What the available sources do not clarify is how these figures compare with previous years, how the eight multiorgan procurements break down by organ, or whether all 35 corneal transplant recipients were from Caserta or from the wider Campania region.
