Pontelandolfo has opened applications for the voluntary “Nonno Vigile” service for the 2026/2027 school year. According to NTR24, the municipal notice invites interested residents to apply by 13:00 on Friday, 23 October 2026.

The service covers areas near schools during pupils’ arrival and departure times, with the aim of preventing danger and helping children cross roads safely.

What volunteers do

Volunteers may assist pupils at pedestrian crossings and help keep boarding areas safe around school buses. They may also report hazards or improper conduct to the Municipal Police. They do not replace police officers.

Coverage is normally limited to up to 30 minutes at school entry and 30 minutes at exit, for no more than four hours per day.

Who can apply

Eligible applicants must be resident or domiciled in Pontelandolfo and aged between 60 and 75. They must provide a medical fitness certificate issued no more than three months before the application.

How to apply

Applications must use the form attached to the municipal notice and be submitted to the Municipal Protocol Office either by hand or by certified email to [email protected], by the 23 October deadline.

The role is voluntary and unpaid. The municipality plans to provide identification and safety equipment, including a badge, reflective vest, cap, signalling paddle and whistle, together with accident and third-party liability insurance.

If valid applications exceed the number of volunteers needed, candidates will be interviewed and placed in a ranking based on prior police-service experience, younger age and the order in which applications were registered.

The exact number of positions, assigned schools and final shifts had not yet been announced in the report acquired.
