The Comitato Genitori per la Scuola has announced a demonstration under the banner "La mensa non può più aspettare" for Thursday, 8 October 2026, at 15:00 outside Palazzo Mosti in Benevento.

According to NTR24 reporting on the announcement, the protest concerns delays in restarting school catering and uncertainty around the planned expansion of the cooking centre. The committee is also seeking publication of records and clarification about previous ASL findings and prescriptions concerning the Beltiglio cooking centre.

The committee's stated demands include income-proportionate fees, regular checks involving parent representatives and the canteen commission, and a possible legally compliant option for home-packed meals.

Context reported by NTR24 shows the dispute has been building for months. An opposition statement reported on 1 October claimed that about 500 families had been left without access to the school-catering service, and said restrictions on home-packed meals created practical difficulties for working families. That figure is attributed to the opposition and is not corroborated by municipal enrolment data in the material reviewed.

A municipal education representative had previously said that the abolition of home-packed meals at some schools, combined with excess full-time enrolments, could create service difficulties. NTR24 also reported the municipality's position that general taxation covered nearly 60% of the overall catering-service cost.

What remains unclear: whether the 8 October protest took place as announced and what responses followed, the exact ASL findings and current hygienic conditions at the Beltiglio centre, and the municipality's and contractor's full replies to the committee's allegations.
