The town council of Sant'Antonio Abate has unanimously approved an initiative promoted by the Associazione Popolare "Casa Mia" calling for a national moratorium on demolitions of homes described as necessary residences.
The decision asks Parliament and the national government to set clear, nationally coordinated rules for demolition procedures, including socially graduated and equitable priorities for intervention. Under the proposal, first and only homes belonging to families in need would be placed at the lowest priority for demolition.
Mayor Ilaria Abagnale said the council's position does not challenge legality, territorial protection, or the work of the judiciary. She argued that some procedures affect families in situations of serious vulnerability for whom the property is their only home, and that municipalities cannot independently provide emergency housing solutions.
Metropolis Web places the Sant'Antonio Abate initiative within a broader local debate also involving the nearby municipalities of Casola and Lettere.
What is not yet clear from the available reporting is the text or legal status of the proposed national measure, how many properties or families in Sant'Antonio Abate are directly affected, or what timetable applies to any demolition procedures or a governmental response.
