An agricultural plot planted with olive trees and turned into a paid parking lot has been placed under preventive seizure in Sorrento, in the locality of Pignatella along via Marina di Puolo.
The measure was carried out on 26 October 2026 by the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Sorrento, acting under a preventive seizure decree.
What was seized
The seizure concerns a farm plot that investigators say had been stably converted into a parking area for vehicles. The land, described as an olive grove, lies in an area subject to landscape and environmental protection.
According to the investigation, the site had been fitted out for regular paid parking use. Reported works and installations include ticket kiosks, canopies, movable barriers and a concrete pavement.
The research does not give the exact size of the plot, the number of parking spaces or any revenue from the activity.
The investigation
The investigation began in March 2026 and concerns the owners of the land and the manager of the parking activity.
It was conducted by the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Sorrento together with staff of the municipal anti-abuse building office, the Ufficio Antiabusivismo edilizio of the Comune di Sorrento, and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Torre Annunziata.
The alleged offences reported are a planning-relevant change of use and a landscape violation.
The municipality had already ordered closure
The seizure followed an earlier municipal intervention. On 11 August 2026, the Comune di Sorrento had ordered the prohibition of the paid parking activity, the clearing of the agricultural area and the blocking of access to the plots concerned.
The full text of the municipal order and a public map of the parcels involved were not available in the sources consulted.
Legal status
The case remains at the preliminary-investigation stage. The seizure can be appealed, and those under investigation cannot be considered guilty until a final judgment. Individual responsibility and the final legal characterisation of the facts will have to be established in court.
What visitors should know
The former parking area has been ordered cleared and its access points blocked, first by the municipal order of August 2026 and now by the preventive seizure. The seized area is therefore closed and should not be used for parking.
