A Brazilian woman described by investigators as the alleged organiser of a fraudulent Italian citizenship operation has been arrested after being located in Ferrara, according to a report by Metropolis Web.

The arrest was carried out in an operation involving the Ferrara Questura’s mobile squad and the Torre del Greco police station. A judge in Ferrara later validated her pre-trial detention. Because she has a young child, she was transferred to the ICAM facility in Venice.

The investigation concerns alleged irregular applications for Italian citizenship by descent processed in Torre del Greco. According to the report, the alleged scheme operated between 2022 and 2024 and involved more than 70 Brazilian applicants.

Metropolis Web reports that applicants allegedly paid at least €5,000 per case for citizenship applications processed without the required conditions.

The same report says three Torre del Greco municipal employees were already under investigation, including two registry-office employees and a municipal police officer.

The identities of the arrested woman and the municipal employees have not been established in the available material. The charges, evidence and outcome remain unresolved, and the claims about the number of applicants, payments and municipal involvement should be treated as allegations within an ongoing investigation.
