Former German chancellor Angela Merkel returned to the Archaeological Park of Pompeii on 22 October 2026 for a visit to the excavations.

Merkel was accompanied on the tour by Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Parco Archeologico di Pompei. The visit came about a year after her previous trip to Campania.

The route included ancient streets, rooms and domus within the archaeological area. The report does not specify every house or room visited, nor the private or institutional reason for the tour.

The site is part of the Parco Archeologico di Pompei, which publishes official information on hours, tickets and access. The Park lists a daily limit of 20,000 entries for Pompeii.
