On October 2, 2026, municipal police in Torre del Greco stopped a small car that had been turned into a makeshift waste carrier and seized both the vehicle and its load.

The check took place along Via Nazionale, at number 296. According to reports from Metropolis Web, confirmed by ANSA, the car was transporting two broken refrigerators and construction debris without authorization.

The vehicle was a Daewoo Matiz with no insurance coverage. The driver had never held a driving licence. One refrigerator had been placed on the roof and another in the open boot, held only by a few ropes.

The car and its contents were seized, and the driver was reported to the judicial authority while remaining at liberty.

A Broader Enforcement Effort

The stop was part of ongoing environmental checks by the Torre del Greco municipal police against illegal dumping. In the two weeks before the seizure, officers had issued about 60 administrative fines for violations of waste disposal rules.

Since the start of the year, fines linked to breaches of the mayoral waste ordinance had exceeded 1,100, with around ten criminal reports filed in the most serious cases.

Some areas considered vulnerable to illegal dumping have been placed under video surveillance, although the exact locations have not been made public.

Not the First Case

The episode follows a similar intervention documented in March 2025, when municipal police stopped a station wagon carrying 16 large sacks of debris and rubble during environmental checks, also on Via Nazionale.

The sources do not give the name of the driver stopped on October 2, nor the specific offences charged in detail or the outcome of any subsequent proceedings. The text of the municipal waste ordinance cited in the reports was not published, and it has not been confirmed where the waste came from or where it was headed.
