An AirTag attached to stolen property helped investigators trace valuables taken in a theft in Lauro in April 2025 and identify both the suspected thief and two alleged receivers, according to IrpiniaNews.
Police followed the signal to Marigliano, where a search on 22 April 2025 recovered stolen gold, silver, a necklace and a document holder. Officers also seized phones, laptops, point-of-sale devices, modems and SIM cards believed to be linked to other thefts, although the reports do not confirm ownership or separate case outcomes for those additional items.
Two men from Marigliano, aged 58 and 34, were prosecuted for receiving stolen goods. The case was heard in Rome because the victim was a magistrate. The alleged thief had already been convicted, while proceedings against the two alleged receivers continued.
The victim joined the proceedings as a civil claimant, represented by lawyer Francesco Ponzi. The trial and judgment were postponed to December, with no precise date or final outcome reported. The defendants were not identified by name in the published reports.
