A 20-year-old woman was attacked and stabbed from behind while walking alone in Salerno's historic centre on the evening of 23 September 2026.
The assault happened in Largo San Tommaso d'Aquino at approximately 21:30. According to the reports, an unknown attacker struck her from behind without warning.
The main injury was a seven-centimetre wound to the nape, on the right side. She also suffered a wound to her left hand, apparently sustained while trying to defend herself.
A passer-by found the young woman and raised the alarm. Emergency services transported her to hospital in red-code condition after significant blood loss.
At the hospital, a CT scan was negative. She received a blood transfusion and was discharged the following morning.
The victim told investigators that she did not know the attacker. The Squadra Mobile is investigating the assault and working to identify the perpetrator.
The attacker's identity and motive had not been established in the reports acquired, and it remains unresolved whether the assault was random or connected to a prior dispute.
