A man resident in Giffoni Valle Piana has been placed under house arrest over the alleged theft of about 300 quintals of timber obtained from the felling of 70 trees.
The precautionary measure was ordered by the investigating judge of the Court of Salerno at the request of the local prosecutor's office, according to Il Mattino. It was executed by the Forestry Unit of the Carabinieri of Giffoni Valle Piana.
According to the accusation, the trees were cut in June in Giffoni Valle Piana, within the Monti Picentini Regional Park. The trees were reported to be mainly alders, with a smaller number of maples.
The reports describe the site as an integral reserve and a Special Protection Area. The alleged operation was reportedly carried out without the required authorization or clearance from the competent authorities.
The case remains at the stage of allegations and investigative findings. No final conviction has been established, and the suspect's name has not been reported.
