Torre del Greco is expanding paid on-street parking, adding 71 new blue spaces and bringing the reported city total to 1,297 spaces.
According to Il Mattino Napoli, the new spaces are distributed as 26 on via Armando Diaz, 21 on via Fontana, 11 on viale Cristoforo Colombo and 13 on corso Garibaldi. Other areas of the city have also seen previously free spaces converted to paid spaces.
The administration links the expansion to employment. Councillor Antonio Crispino says the additional spaces helped stabilize 15 previously precarious workers, framing the policy as "more stalls, more hires."
The move has drawn opposition from residents and the group Potere al Popolo. A petition against the new tariffs and calling for cheaper resident subscriptions has reportedly gathered nearly 800 signatures.
At issue is the cost for residents. Monthly subscriptions are reported at around 80 euros for parking on one street and 100 euros citywide, without a guaranteed reserved space. Critics also point to the absence of yellow spaces reserved for residents.
The parking tender is reported to remain in force for seven years. Potere al Popolo argues that its rules allow the number and location of spaces to be adjusted by up to 20%, leaving room for changes.
The administration is reported to be reviewing possible discounts or adjustments, but no final decision has been established.
