Two electric bicycles left along Corso Italia in Piano di Sorrento were stolen during the night between 14 and 15 September 2025, in a case that has since led to precautionary measures against five people.

The bicycles had an estimated combined value of approximately €2,200, according to the reports on the case.

What investigators allege

Investigators allege that the group arrived using a car and a van, loaded the two electric bicycles into the van, and then left in the direction of Scafati.

The five people are under investigation for aggravated, continuing theft committed jointly. The charge is described in the reporting with the Italian formulation:

“sono accusati di furto aggravato e continuato in concorso.”

How the case was investigated

The investigation drew on video-surveillance footage, vehicle checks, GPS data and telephone records.

That combination of evidence allowed investigators to reconstruct the movements of the vehicles and the people allegedly involved on the night of the theft, linking the removal of the bicycles from Corso Italia to the subsequent departure toward Scafati.

Measures carried out in four cities

The five precautionary measures were carried out in Salerno, Scafati, Roccapiemonte and Genoa.

The spread across Campania and Liguria shows that the judicial activity extended well beyond Piano di Sorrento, even though the alleged theft itself was concentrated in a single location on Corso Italia.

The proceedings remain at the preliminary-investigation stage.

That means the available accounts describe investigative allegations and precautionary measures, not final findings. The suspects cannot be considered guilty until a final conviction, and the names of the five people have not been provided in the reporting available for this case.
