Firefighters intervened at a residential building in Via Aniello Falcone, in Naples' Vomero district, to free a colony of pigeons trapped inside by protective netting.
According to reporting by Il Mattino Napoli, the nets had been installed to close off access points in the building. Instead of simply keeping the birds out, they prevented pigeons already inside from leaving and from tending their eggs.
Residents alerted the Italian League for Bird Protection, LIPU. The association then pressed for a rescue intervention.
Firefighters removed the blockages, allowing the pigeons to move freely again and resume nesting activity.
Following the incident, the Naples section of LIPU, through its delegate Fabio Procaccini, filed a formal complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office.
No further details have been confirmed about the number of birds involved, the exact date of the intervention, the identity of the building, or any outcome of the complaint.
