Carabinieri arrested 30-year-old Nico Macchia during a raid in the Chalet Bakù public-housing complex in Scampia, in an operation linked by Il Mattino to the shooting that had injured 22-year-old Antonio Lucenti several hours earlier.
The operation was carried out by Carabinieri from the Napoli Scampia Station and the Napoli Stella Operational Unit. According to the report, officers entered the complex following the ambush and stopped Macchia inside.
During the search, investigators reportedly found a loaded Beretta calibre 7.65 with its serial number erased. The reported seizure also included almost 12 grams of heroin, 93 grams of hashish and 20 grams of crack, along with a scale and cash.
Macchia was reported to have been transferred to Poggioreale prison pending a validation hearing before a preliminary-investigations judge.
The circumstances, motive and perpetrators of the shooting involving Lucenti were not established in the report, and the arrest and allegations remained subject to judicial validation at the time of publication.
