More than 350 pupils from the IC3 Parco Verde school gathered at the Pino Daniele Sports Centre in Caivano for an initiative built around the America's Cup trophy.
The Cup was displayed inside the centre, and the swimming pool was converted into a small regatta course for introductory sailing trials with Optimist boats. Representatives of Luna Rossa, Emirates Team New Zealand, Sport e Salute and government institutions took part in the event.
The initiative was presented by organisers and institutional representatives as an example of sport serving social inclusion and local regeneration. Emirates Team New Zealand CEO Grant Dalton described bringing sailing to a difficult neighbourhood and involving children and young people as a particularly meaningful choice, linked to the inclusivity of the America's Cup.
According to Sport e Salute's chief executive, more than 800 children use the centre every day. Sport e Salute also said it intends to extend its management of the Pino Daniele Centre for another three years, although the reporting describes that extension as still to be formalised.
The Youth America's Cup was announced for 2-6 June 2027.
