Investigators traced a drone used in an attempted delivery of drugs and phones into Poggioreale prison in Naples, leading to the arrest of four people caught in flagrante delicto.
According to Il Mattino, the intended shipment included 200 grams of drugs, 11 smartphones and 10 SIM cards. Investigators traced the aircraft, identified its pilots and an alleged lookout, and prison authorities later recovered the drone. The drone had reportedly taken off from the roof of a nearby building.
The reports did not identify the four arrested people or describe subsequent judicial decisions.
The attempt follows a related earlier incident at Poggioreale involving a drone carrying 300 grams of hashish and a smartphone. In connection with that episode, prison-police union representatives called for stronger perimeter controls, technology and staffing to counter drone deliveries.
