Authorities in Bacoli have seized an unauthorized waste management facility that operated without regional authorization, following an investigation by the Carabinieri Forestali of Pozzuoli under the direction of the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office.
According to the validated reporting from Il Mattino Napoli, the site was formally registered as a collection center but was allegedly used as a transfer and compaction station for thousands of tons of waste. Investigators found that it continuously handled 17 different European Waste Catalogue (EER) codes, including special waste, hazardous waste, biodegradable waste, bulky items, and tires.
Two people are under investigation.
The inquiry drew on site inspections and testimony from local residents. People living in the nearby Parco Orione residential complex had reported foul odors, gaseous emissions, and noise above legal limits.
Environmental concerns were central to the seizure. Liquids produced by the stored waste were allegedly poured onto the ground and channeled into public sewer drains without an authorized collection system.
The complex covers about 3,500 square meters. More than 1,800 square meters were reportedly affected by changes of use and building violations, adding urban-planning and acoustic breaches to the environmental allegations.
The Naples Prosecutor's Office has ordered the prompt removal and lawful disposal of the waste still on site, with particular attention to hazardous, biodegradable, and putrescible materials.
