Two motorists were trapped in their cars in a flooded underpass in the San Giovanni a Teduccio area of Naples during bad weather in the morning, at around 8:30, near the port.

A Squadra Mobile officer of the Naples Police Headquarters, who was wearing civilian clothes, entered the underpass while the water was still rising. He went to the nearby port area and secured the help of a truck driver with a trailer.

The officer waded into the water to attach the stranded cars to the heavy vehicle so they could be pulled out. He helped the first driver to safety, then went back into the water to assist a second motorist trapped in a Mercedes. Both drivers were brought to safety through the officer's intervention and the truck driver's cooperation.

SILP CGIL Napoli publicly praised the officer for the rescue. Union secretary Angelo Raffaele Esposito said the officer entered the water and risked his own safety to help two people in danger, and the union called for the intervention to receive appropriate recognition as an example of courage, altruism and public service.

What has not been reported is the name of the officer, the identities and condition of the two motorists, and the exact name of the underpass involved.
