On the morning of 21 October 2026, from around 7:00 a.m., the link from the A1 Milano-Napoli to the A30 Caserta-Salerno was temporarily closed to vehicles coming from Rome because of a hauliers' protest.
Closures reported on the morning of 21 October
The closed movement was the A1 to A30 connection for traffic arriving from Rome, in the direction of Salerno.
Two queues were reported at that time:
- 3 km between Caserta Nord and the junction with the A30 toward Naples
- 2 km between the Napoli Nord barrier and Caserta Nord toward Rome
Two further closures were reported in connection with the same protest:
- Nocera Pagani station, closed on exit for traffic from both directions
- The A1–SP1 Casoria route toward the SS7 Appia, closed for traffic arriving from Rome
Police and Autostrade per l'Italia staff were present, according to ANSA.
Alternative routes indicated
For Rome to Naples, the indicated route was to leave the motorway at Caserta Nord, continue on the ordinary road network, and rejoin the motorway at Caserta Sud.
For Rome to Salerno and the southern section of the A30, the indicated route was to leave the motorway at Caserta Nord, continue toward Maddaloni, and rejoin the A30 at the Maddaloni station.
For drivers coming from Naples, the indicated route passed through Maddaloni and the SS700, with re-entry to the A1 at the Santa Maria Capua Vetere station in the direction of Naples.
Why hauliers were protesting
The protest was connected to difficulties reported by hauliers linked to fuel costs.
A similar protest over high fuel prices had already caused disruption in the previous days. On 16 October, disruption, queues, and blocked exits were reported in the province of Salerno and on the A30 and A2 motorways, including the temporary closure of the Nola exit and a gathering at Caianello.
What remains unclear
The sources available for the morning of 21 October did not give a reopening time for the A1–A30 junction, the Nocera Pagani station, or the A1–SP1 Casoria link.
Queues and closures were described as an evolving situation. The figures above reflect conditions reported that morning and may have changed later in the day. The consulted sources also did not clarify the expected overall duration of the protest or the outcome of any talks with public authorities.
