An Air Campania bus driver was assaulted while working on the Scampia–Mondragone route, on Line 08na in the Scampia area of Naples.
After a dispute apparently linked to a bus stop, a man drew a knife and wounded the driver twice in the arm. Carabinieri officers and 118 emergency responders attended the scene, and the driver was taken to an emergency department for treatment. The man was detained by the authorities.
Air Campania administrator Anthony Acconcia condemned the attack and called for stronger prevention and protection measures for workers and passengers. According to the company, private security services had already been operating on board buses for months.
The identity of the detained man has not been reported, nor have any formal charges. The driver's medical prognosis and the precise circumstances of the dispute have not been confirmed.
