Carabinieri inspected a food processing and retail company in Santa Maria la Fossa, in the province of Caserta, finding alleged labor, health, and environmental violations that led to seizures, criminal reports, suspension of the business, and fines.

The check was carried out by the Carabinieri station of Grazzanise with support from the Labor Inspectorate unit, the ecological operations unit, and the Caserta local health authority. Those specialist units are institutionally responsible for food safety and environmental protection oversight.

What officers reported

Nine workers were identified during the visit. According to the report, seven did not have a regular employment contract.

Officers also cited alleged workplace-safety violations, including failure to assess risks, failure to provide health surveillance, and failure to train employees.

On environmental matters, officers ordered the criminal seizure of a sealed tank and a pipe that, according to the findings reported, was discharging liquids into an irrigation channel.

About 800 kilograms of food products were also seized over alleged poor storage conditions.

Reports, suspension, and fines

The company's legal representative was reported on alleged criminal offences concerning labor, food, and environmental matters. A second person was reported for an alleged violation of entry and residence rules.

The business was suspended. Administrative penalties totaling 35,580 euros were imposed, along with additional fines of 8,827.80 euros.

The names of the company and the people reported were not disclosed in the report. The allegations are under investigation and do not amount to final convictions. No further details were given on how long the suspension will last or on the later outcome of the seizures.
