The start of the school canteen service in Benevento has been postponed, prompting criticism from opposition councillors toward the mayor and the delegated councillor over disruption for families.

According to the opposition, the service would not begin on the previously expected date, forcing school managers to reorganise timetables at short notice.

The opposition councillors called on the mayor and the delegated councillor to apologise for the disruption caused to families. They also criticised the communication of the delay, stating that many parents learned about the postponement through notices displayed outside schools rather than through an official municipal communication.

The municipality announced that the canteen service was expected to start on Tuesday 13 October.

The stated reasons for the postponement were logistical and organisational needs of the contracted provider, including accommodating additional pupils who had not registered within the original deadline.

The municipality said there were no hygiene or public-health problems behind the postponement.
