Forza Italia deputy Francesco Maria Rubano has announced that he will submit a parliamentary question concerning the Ficomirrors plant in Morcone, in the province of Benevento, after reports that production of a mirror for the Fiat Ducato is to be transferred to Poland.

According to local reports, Rubano said the question would be addressed to the Minister of Labour and the Minister for Enterprises and Made in Italy. The stated objective is to clarify the company's plans and to seek measures to protect employment and production continuity at the Morcone site.

The dispute: Ducato mirror production reportedly moving to Poland

The dispute concerns the announced transfer to Poland of production of a mirror destined for the Fiat Ducato, an automotive component currently made at Morcone.

Local media report that workers at the Morcone plant blocked the facility after learning of the transfer decision. The operational timetable and the exact scope of the transfer remain based on statements reported by local media rather than on a published company statement.

Workers, mayors and regional politicians respond

The workers' protest was followed by calls from local and regional representatives for negotiations involving the company, trade unions and public institutions.

Mayors from the Alto Tammaro area expressed support for the workers and called for dialogue with the company, unions and institutions to stop the transfer of production to Poland, according to local reports.

Regional councillor Pellegrino Mastella said the decision could affect the income and livelihood of more than 200 families, and called for a regional negotiating table. That figure is attributed to a political statement and has not been independently established as the number of workers directly affected.

Regional councillor Fernando Errico supported a meeting at the Prefecture of Benevento. He was reported as saying the transfer was expected from the second half of 2029.

What institutions are asking for

Several institutional steps have been proposed in local reports:

  • A parliamentary question announced by Rubano to ask the Labour Ministry and the Ministry for Enterprises and Made in Italy for clarification on the company's plans and for action to protect jobs in Morcone.
  • A Prefecture-level negotiating table in Benevento, supported by Errico and other local representatives, to bring together the company, unions and institutions.
  • Possible regional involvement, raised by Mastella in connection with a regional table.
  • Senator Domenico Matera said he had contacted the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy about the possibility of a national negotiating table.

What remains unclear

Several key points have not yet been confirmed in the reporting acquired for this article:

  • Ficomirrors or its parent group Ficosa has not provided an official rationale in the documents reviewed, so the company's position is not yet on the record.
  • It is not yet clear whether Rubano's parliamentary question has been formally filed.
  • No confirmed date has been reported for any Prefecture-level meeting or national table.
  • The number of workers directly affected and the detailed timetable for the reported transfer remain based on statements quoted in local media.

For now, the next reported steps are Rubano's announced parliamentary question and the proposed meeting at the Prefecture, both aimed at obtaining clarification from the company and examining options to protect employment at the Morcone plant.
