The Summit Aree Interne 2030 has opened at the University of Sannio in Benevento. The meeting is promoted by the Rete Interuniversitaria delle Aree Interne del Sud, known as RISE, with Unisannio as the lead university.

RISE brings together ten universities in southern Italy. According to the published programme, its purpose is to strengthen the ability of local territories to design and implement development policies.

Linking research, institutions and local actors

The summit is presented as a meeting point for research, institutions and local territories. Its stated aim is to connect scientific expertise with local administrations, businesses and other social and economic actors, and to make better use of territorial capital.

The work is therefore not conceived as an academic discussion alone. Researchers, public officials and territorial stakeholders are expected to work together on operational priorities.

Four thematic workshops

The programme is organised around four thematic laboratories. They cover:

  • institutional governance
  • heritage and infrastructure
  • human capital
  • development and digital innovation

The workshops are intended to produce operational priorities rather than general statements, linking competences, practical tools and development strategies for inner areas.

Where and when in Benevento

The summit takes place in Benevento over two days, 29 and 30 October.

Activities on 29 October are scheduled at the Polo didattico in Via delle Puglie. Activities on 30 October are scheduled at the Auditorium Sant'Agostino.

Toward the Manifesto Aree Interne 2030

The results of the workshops are expected to contribute to the Manifesto Aree Interne 2030. The manifesto is described as a document of priorities and operational guidance for cohesion policies.

No final text of the manifesto has yet been published, and the conclusive outcomes of the laboratories were not yet available at the time of writing.

The discussion is also placed in the context of future cohesion policies and post-2027 European programming. For now, the summit documents an agenda and a working method; its operational conclusions remain to be published.
