Marcangelo Fusco, former mayor of Ponte and now an opposition councillor, has written to Mayor Caporaso and the municipal administration asking for urgent discussions with RFI over the visual impact of noise barriers being installed along the railway.
Fusco says the landscape impact has become increasingly apparent as construction work advances. The area concerned is described in local reports as having significant landscape, environmental and agricultural value.
In his letter, Fusco asked the municipality to promote an urgent meeting with RFI and the contracting firms involved in the works. He suggested that other affected municipalities and trade associations could also be involved.
Among the options raised are transparent barriers or other technical solutions designed to maintain acoustic effectiveness while reducing the visual footprint of the installations.
Fusco also offered to take part in discussions involving residents, associations and local businesses affected by the works.
No response from the mayor, the municipality, RFI or the contractors was reported. Details of the railway project, including barrier locations, dimensions, materials and timetable, were not specified, nor was whether alternative designs would be technically feasible.
