On 29 September 2026, Sorrento's municipal executive approved a memorandum of understanding with the Prefecture of Naples designed to prevent organized-crime infiltration in public administration.
The protocol covers public works, services and supplies, as well as construction and urban-planning activity. According to Metropolis Web, the framework follows national directives for 2026–2028 and prescriptions set out in a 22 April 2026 decree of the Italian Interior Minister.
The reported safeguards extend anti-mafia checks to subcontracts worth more than €100,000 and to companies and foundations controlled by the municipality.
A central provision is an express termination clause. Companies awarded public contracts would accept immediate and automatic termination of the contract — or revocation of subcontracting authorization — if the Prefecture subsequently issues disqualifying anti-mafia information.
