A 42-year-old man suffered serious burns in the countryside around Colliano, in the province of Salerno, after a fire he had lit to burn vegetation got out of control.
According to Metropolis Web, the flames spread to the man's clothing, causing second- and third-degree burns to his chest, abdomen, arms and legs.
Despite his injuries, the man managed to reach the hospital in Oliveto Citra on his own by car. From there, he was transferred by air ambulance to the Burn Centre at Cardarelli Hospital in Naples, where he remains hospitalized with a reserved prognosis.
An initial reconstruction, still being verified, suggests that flammable material may have been used to start or feed the fire. The exact sequence of events remains under investigation.
