Andrea Ruggiero, the mayor of Nola, has appointed a new seven-member municipal executive after a political crisis lasting almost two months. According to Metropolis Web, Ruggiero signed decree no. 8 on 23 September 2026, naming the new Giunta following the resignations of five assessors.

The appointments resolve the immediate executive vacancy. They do not by themselves establish that the mayor has a stable majority in the municipal council.

The new executive

Francescantonio Galasso is deputy mayor and holds the budget, treasury and tax portfolios.

The rest of the executive is assigned as follows:

  • Felice Attilio Paolo Maggio: public works
  • Antonio Manzi: environment
  • Cinzia Trinchese: cultural heritage and education
  • Florinda Aliperta: social and labour policies
  • Antonella Iovino: urban planning
  • Raffaele Giugliano: productive activities and municipal policing

Giugliano is reported as the principal new entry in the executive. Ruggiero retains responsibility for the Fondazione Festa dei Gigli.

Ruggiero said the new administration should address stalled projects, unfinished works and pending city issues.

How the vacancy arose

The crisis involved the return of administrative delegations by the groups Fare Democratico, Nola Popolare and Nuovi Orizzonti, amid disputes over political agreements and decision-making. Five assessors subsequently resigned, leaving the executive posts to be filled.

Before the new executive was announced, the political balance in the council had shifted to 13 opposition councillors against 12 still supporting the mayor, according to ilMediano.

What is resolved and what remains open

What is now resolved is the composition of the Giunta: Nola again has seven appointed assessors with defined portfolios, after a period in which those posts were vacant.

What remains open is the council arithmetic. The sources do not establish whether the new arrangement will secure a durable majority in the municipal council. The reported 13-to-12 split preceded the announcement, and the appointment of a new executive does not itself change the number of councillors aligned with the mayor.
