Inspectors found insects in food containers and worms in flour packages during checks at five social-care facilities in Caivano, leading to the suspension of a food-storage depot run by the same cooperative.
The inspection involved five facilities linked to one cooperative: two residential communities and three educational communities for minors. It was carried out by Carabinieri, NAS Napoli and Caivano municipal social services, according to the local report.
At the depot, inspectors reported hygiene and sanitary conditions that did not meet the required standards. The storage site was suspended as a result.
Approximately 500 kilograms of dry, fresh, frozen and deep-frozen food was barred from being placed on the market because the required provenance and traceability documentation was missing.
The cooperative's 37-year-old legal representative was reported to the authorities for alleged food-hygiene violations and received administrative penalties totaling 4,000 euros.
The matter was referred to judicial authorities. Further checks were expected on the food supply chain and the five facilities involved.
