The renovated multifunctional sports court at the Mazza-Colamarino comprehensive institute in Torre del Greco was inaugurated on Monday, 28 September 2026.
The facility is located at the school site on Via Vittorio Veneto. The works were funded through resources made available by the municipality's public-education sector for structural improvements and curricular or extracurricular initiatives.
The ceremony included the unveiling of a plaque bearing a quotation attributed to Olympic champion Pietro Mennea:
“Lo sport è cultura, salute, educazione. Un campo sportivo aperto ai giovani è una scuola di vita sottratta alla strada.”
Students took part in the event with sporting and singing performances, read a speech, and played volleyball during the ceremony. Il Gazzettino Vesuviano highlighted the students' enthusiasm at the inauguration.
The outdoor court is intended to serve as a physical-education space during favorable weather and as an outlet for students.
The inauguration was attended by Mayor Luigi Mennella, Education Councillor Mariateresa Sorrentino, Sports Delegate Valentina Ascione, and Headteacher Debora Minghelli.
