A car ended up partly suspended over a deep drop at localita Scoglio, on the route toward Montepertuso in Positano, during the night between 31 October and 1 November 2026. The sole occupant, a 23-year-old local driver, survived and was reported uninjured or nearly uninjured.
The vehicle, an Audi A3, struck the roadside iron parapet at Scoglio, shortly after the Montepertuso junction. The parapet was broken through or severely damaged in the impact. Instead of falling, the car remained held in place, partly suspended over the drop.
The crash was reported around 6 a.m. on 1 November. Firefighters, Carabinieri and local police responded. Firefighters from Maiori worked with the Amalfi Carabinieri to secure the vehicle with steel cables and lift it back with a special crane.
The recovery operation was completed shortly after 9 a.m., when the road was reopened to traffic.
The driver tested negative for alcohol. The precise cause of the crash remains under investigation. One report mentions possible drowsiness, but that is presented as a hypothesis rather than an established finding.
What the reports establish so far is limited to the location, the damaged parapet, the suspended position of the car, the survival of the driver, the joint recovery operation and the reopening of the road. They do not provide a formal accident reconstruction or an independently confirmed measurement of the drop.
