On Tuesday 3 November at 17:30, Palazzo Ricca, the seat of the Fondazione Banco Napoli, will host the presentation of "Arianna, i Pinocchi e Salvatore" by Vincenzo Capuano.
Published by Edizioni Morghen, the book starts from the history and symbolism of toys to address wider themes of society, education, justice and humanity. Capuano, a lecturer in the history of toys at Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples, describes the work as a container for painful, true stories rather than a children's book.
The book is dedicated to the memory of Arianna Flagiello and confronts violence and mistreatment against women. It also includes stories connected with Salvatore and with crime victims Giancarlo and Melania.
Those listed as taking part in the presentation include Orazio Abbamonte, Anna Maria Carloni, Rosario Cortese, Maurizio De Giovanni, Patrizia Di Martino and Valentina Flagiello.
The event brings together Capuano's toy collection and social testimony: familiar objects become a way to talk about memory, responsibility and the fight against gender violence.
