Torre del Greco will permanently activate its first three new traffic-light systems at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, starting a closely watched test for traffic and pedestrian safety in the city center.

Under the municipal police order reported by local press, the signals will run on a standard three-light cycle from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., switching to flashing yellow overnight from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

The three intersections

The activation covers:

  • Via Tironi – Via Enrico De Nicola – Via Benedetto Croce
  • Via Cavallo – Via Circumvallazione – Via San Giovanni Battista
  • Via Vittorio Veneto – Via Circumvallazione – Via Guglielmo Marconi

A fourth planned installation in the Cappella Nuova area has not yet been authorized for activation.

Part of a wider pedestrian-safety effort

The switch-on follows recent complaints about pedestrian safety in the historic center. Via Salvator Noto, a roughly 300-meter street heavily used by pedestrians, had been reported as lacking marked crossings, with crossing made more difficult by parked motorcycles occupying pedestrian space.

The municipality has since added new pedestrian crossings in Via Salvator Noto, near the side streets leading toward the small squares of the old center.

Whether the new signals ease congestion and make crossings safer will only become clear after an observation period once the Saturday morning activation begins.
