An investigation into an alleged trafficking network for counterfeit 19th-century Neapolitan paintings has led to ten people being placed under investigation, according to a report by Metropolis Web.

The report states that the operation was carried out by the Carabinieri unit for the protection of cultural heritage, under the coordination of the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office. The investigation concerns allegedly counterfeit paintings attributed to nineteenth-century Neapolitan art, with activity focused especially on works attributed to Vincenzo Irolli.

According to the report, investigators conducted 41 searches across Italy, with online sales documented in several European countries.

The names of the ten people under investigation have not been reported in the available material, nor have the number of paintings involved, their estimated value, or the specific European countries concerned. The alleged offences and the procedural status of the case also remain unclear. The findings reported so far describe investigative allegations; guilt has not been established.
