The Campania Region has admitted a project for the Museo Antiquarium "Filippo Buonopane" in Grottaminarda to regional funding, according to concordant local reports. The measure was issued under regional executive decree n. 160.
The announced grant is about 10,500 euros, against a total project cost of about 15,000 euros. Three independent local outlets — IrpiniaNews, Telenostra and CorriereIrpinia — report the same amount and the same scope of work.
What the funding covers
The planned works concern the museum wing housed in the Castello d'Aquino. They include:
- installation of security systems
- restoration of the exterior window and door frames of the right wing of the museum
The reports do not provide a technical specification, a works schedule, or confirmation that the works have been completed. The sources also do not give the exact date of decree n. 160 or the regional office that issued it.
One report said works would begin in the week following publication, but the available sources do not allow that start date to be verified independently.
A reorganization of the Castello d'Aquino
The funding is linked to a wider reorganization of spaces inside the Castello d'Aquino.
According to the reports, the municipal administration plans to assign the East Tower, or Torre Est, of the castle to the Antiquarium. The aim is to separate the museum's spaces from those of the Biblioteca Comunale "Osvaldo Sanini", which shares the castle complex.
The same reorganization involves the offices of Gal Irpinia. The reports connect their planned transfer to Palazzo Portoghesi with the freeing and redistribution of space in the Castello d'Aquino.
An earlier regional contribution
A separate report adds context to the funding history. In November 2024, Orticalab reported another regional grant to the Municipality of Grottaminarda, approved by executive decree n. 185 of 18 November 2024, for 10,499.14 euros.
That earlier contribution was described as ordinary maintenance for the castle wing used as Antiquarium, with works indicated on lighting, repainting and gutters.
The sources acquired do not clarify whether the newly announced amount of about 10,500 euros is distinct from the 10,499.14 euros reported in 2024, or whether it represents a new phase within the same programme of interventions.
