Avellino Letteraria is changing format. The literary review becomes itinerant for the first time and will open its new edition in Summonte, bringing authors, readings and music outside Avellino and into Irpinia towns.
The inaugural event is scheduled for Saturday, 3 October 2026 at 18:00 in the museum hall of the Complesso Castellare in Summonte. The evening will present the book "Il Mercadante già Teatro del Fondo. Storia di un teatro napoletano" by Tommaso Tuccillo, published by Kairós edizioni.
A staged book presentation
The Summonte opening is planned as a teatralizzata presentation, with several voices on stage. Annamaria Picillo will introduce the evening, Maurizio Vitiello will join the author in dialogue, and Daniela Apuzza will coordinate the program.
Readings will be performed by Floria Bufano and Marinella Scognamillo, with a musical interlude by guitarist Mario Murru.
The book traces the history of the Neapolitan theatre now known as the Teatro Mercadante, formerly the Teatro del Fondo.
Why Summonte
The choice of Summonte gives the new itinerant edition a historic setting. Summonte stands in the Parco Regionale del Partenio at 738 metres above sea level, about 10 kilometres from Avellino.
Recorded places of interest in the town include the Torre Angioina, the medieval village and the amphitheatre, making the literary event easy to combine with a short visit to the old centre before the 18:00 start.

Visitors should expect a presentation built around dialogue, readings and music rather than a lecture alone. Based on the announced program, the evening will alternate an introduction, conversation with the author, acted readings and a guitar interlude.
