A fifty-year-old worker from Morra de Sanctis has been acquitted of charges of false testimony and calunnia involving Carabinieri officers who had investigated his employer.
The case arose after the worker's testimony in court differed from statements he had previously given to the Carabinieri during preliminary investigations. That discrepancy led to accusations that he had given false evidence and falsely accused the officers.
The underlying proceedings concerned the worker's employer and a doctor accused of false documentation connected to occupational medical examinations. Those defendants were also acquitted.
At trial, the court found that the alleged discrepancies did not establish that the worker's courtroom statements were false, nor that he had deliberately intended to falsely accuse the Carabinieri. Judge Gennaro Lezzi acquitted the worker, with honorary deputy prosecutor Gabriella Cassano also requesting acquittal. The worker was assisted by lawyer Stefano Vozella.
